Musical Fireworks

Bion Tsang is heard on Texas Public Radio’s Performance Saturday performing “Musical Fireworks,” a presentation of Musical Bridges Around the World. The live recording was made at the San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio on December 14, 2025.

The concert features pianist Yungyung Guo, Gold Medalist of the 2024 Gurwitz International Piano Competition, with special guests violinist Scott Yoo and Tsang. The program includes solo piano works of Chopin and Schumann, Manuel de Falla’s Suite Populaire Espagnole for cello and piano, and concludes with Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor—a piece Yoo aptly described as a “desert island” work.

Faure Piano Trio

Bion Tsang is back on American Public Media's Performance Today.  Heard today closing the broadcast is Bion's performance of Gabriel Faure’s Piano Trio in D minor, Op. 120, with pianist John Novacek and violinist Scott Yoo. The live recording was made at Festival Mozaic on February 26, 2023.

Composed late in Fauré’s life, the Op. 120 trio emerged during a period when the composer was nearly deaf and plagued by a condition that distorted musical pitch—making much of what he heard sound out of tune. The trio received its premiere in May 1923 at the Société Nationale de Musique in honor of Fauré’s 78th birthday, and was performed again the following month by the legendary ensemble of Alfred Cortot, Jacques Thibaud, and Pablo Casals.
